The 2004 Miss Mitchell County was won by
Miss Stacyville, Cari Cimmiyotti.
Thirteen young ladies came together Thursday night to compete for the
right to represent Mitchell County at the Iowa State Fair. The ladies
are judged on personality, appearance and their interview answers. The
chosen fair queen, along with her crown and title, wins a $2,500 college
scholarship and a $300 savings bond.
The young lady chosen to be the 2004 Mitchell County Fair Queen was Miss
Stacyville, Cari Cimmiyotti. The first runner-up was Miss Mona, Anna
Haugland. The second runner-up was Miss Riceville, Ashley Conger and
Miss Mitchell, Libby Taets, was judged to be the most congenial.
The singing group, BC3 Accapella, provided the entertainment while the
judges finished tallying up the scores after the interview portion of
the contest.
In catching up with Cari the next day, in between all the events she was
overseeing, it was asked what it was like being up on stage, hoping your
name would be called.
"I was excited, sitting on the edge of my seat," Cari said.
She said that as each name was called she kept thinking that maybe the
next name could be hers.
"I was so nervous," she said. Then she said she heard someone
in the audience shout, "Yes," and she knew that it was her
grandmother.
As part of being Mitchell County Fair Queen, Cari presided over many of
the events from Friday through Sunday, such as handing out medals and
ribbons at the livestock judging, being present at the judging of Little
Miss Mitchell County and just being present at the fair. Both Cari and
her mother, Lori Cimmiyotti, work at Bawek Shoe and Clothing in
Stacyville. "I made a deal with my mom. If I won then she would
have to work for me on Friday," Cari said. "I got the day
off."
Even though Cari is from a small community, she said that she had never
been around livestock so spending four hours Friday morning in a cow
barn was very different, but, "handing out ribbons and medals, that
was neat," she said.
As queen, she will also preside over the parade at Bratwurst Daze at
Stacyville in two weeks and will crown the new Miss Stacyville. She said
that she found out that she is the first Miss Stacyville ever to be
crowned Miss Mitchell County and she feels it is quite an honor.
She has already been told by Jessica Schwab, the 2003 Mitchell County
Fair Queen, that when she goes to Iowa State Fair in August she will
need a lot of outfits for the four days of intensive interviews and
crowning on Saturday. She can't wait to go shopping with her mother.
Cari loves to travel and make new friends."Going to the state fair
and meeting people will be a blast," Cari said. She said that most
of her friends now aren't from her school district, they are people she
has met as she has traveled to different basketball games and
competitions.
She said that Jessica has already been such a big help to her and has
told her to call if she ever had any questions. "She is such a
super person," Cari said. "She is a hard person to follow."
